Soon you may be greeted by a new security solution when you shop with your Dankort at online stores. The new security solution consists of a one-time code, which you will receive via SMS if you shop for an amount over DKK 450.
The new security solution requires that you have registered your telephone number so that you can receive a one-time code via SMS. You also have the option of validating your purchase with NemID if you cannot receive an SMS.
Here's how you do it
If your bank has not already registered your mobile number for you, you will soon be able to do so right here.
What exactly does it mean?
If you shop for an amount over DKK 450, you will receive an SMS with a one-time code, which must be entered in the purchase situation. You may already know this if you've traded international cards online before.
Never disclose the one-time code to people who call you or otherwise contact you.
You can also choose to validate your purchase with NemID, if you e.g. staying in a place where mobile coverage is poor.
How secure is the solution?
You must now have your Dankort connected to your personal mobile number, and here the two factors (Dankort + telephone number) help to reduce the risk of third party misuse of your Dankort.
The code that is sent to your phone is a one-time code, so you do not have to remember codes from time to time. It also reduces the risk of abuse if someone should intercept the dialogue when your code can only be used once.
Is it now becoming more difficult to shop online?
The solution only requires a single extra entry in the payment process, as you know it for international cards. You are therefore moving forward quickly while increasing security.
Is there anything I need to do as a cardholder?
If your bank does not already have your mobile phone number and has registered, you can from 1 July 2016 register your Dankort for the security solution.
I have several questions for the new security solution
For more questions about the security solution, please contact your own bank.
