On the one hand, this increases the security of never losing recordings; on the other, your NVR will have extra capacity in cases where many cameras are connected to the same recorder.

How big a hard drive should I choose?
When you're recording your video surveillance, there are several things that affect how much storage the recordings take up.
The number of cameras and their resolution clearly matter a lot - but your setup and how much is happening in front of the camera also play a role.
The general rule is that it's better to record one hour too much than one minute too little. On the other hand, usually only Norwegians make videos that show the grass growing.
