New indoor surveillance camera? Here's everything you need to know!

And remember, if you are in doubt or want good advice, just call us on 70701009 , we have a lot of experience

Don't read the whole thing, here are 6 important things about indoor surveillance

  1. Always choose the wired solution where possible. Wireless is often unstable and easily loses connection.
  2. In most cases, you use a dome or fisheye camera, where it has to be nice and a "cube camera" where it has to be cheap.
  3. Choose a 4 or 8 megapixel camera, these are the most sold and therefore typically the best for the price.
  4. Place the dome and cube camera in the corner of the room and the fisheye in the middle of the room, and you will get no blind spots and the best images.
  5. Buy an SD card for the camera, so you still have recordings even if the recorder is switched off or stolen
  6. Avoid placing the camera so that the light from outside comes from behind the person/target you are going to see. Side light is better than counter light, if possible.

Can I install my cameras myself?

Yes you can. It basically involves pulling out the cable to the camera and screwing it up. All our surveillance cameras come with everything for installation, including tools of course, but there are also screws, rawplugs and a template for placement. Once you have set things up and the switch is on, we can help you with the rest. If you'd rather spend your time on something better, you can just book a technician here with us and we can set it all up for you. Read more about our "Hire a technician" concept here.

You will need this tool for assembly :

  • WOOD: Screwdriver or screwdriver (bit: PH2)
  • WALL/CONCRETE: Drill with 6mm drill bit + Screwdriver or screwdriver (bit: PH2)

"Most people can set up their own monitoring, they just don't know it yet, hehe" - Svend, technician

WiFi or cable?

Choose WiFi camera if :
It is completely impossible to lead a cable out to the camera and you are settled with the risk of loss of recordings. There are many risks associated with a wireless camera, but not many sellers talk about this. The worst that can happen is the system doesn't work on the day you need it. And remember, wireless solutions must also have power, so either 230v must be drawn or the camera has a battery that must be charged.

Watch a video about the various risks of wireless video surveillance here. Jammer vs. Wi-Fi camera

Choose wired monitoring if :
You want to be sure of a reliable system, it is for good reason that all professional installers always make wired solutions. Remember that only one network cable must be pulled, as the power for the camera is also supplied in the network cable. In addition, a wired monitoring solution also works if your router crashes or restarts - or you get a new router where WiFi must be programmed again.

"We definitely recommend wired solutions, with the exception of Point-to-Point, which is used between buildings where cable is not possible" - Christian, technician.

Can I see my cameras when I'm not at home?

Yes, this is one of the most important things about a good camera today. With an APP on your mobile/tablet you can follow along from all over the world and you can watch both live and recordings. Many cameras today also have a function that sends you push notifications if a rule such as LINE-CROSS or INTRESS is exceeded. You can also watch it on your computer if you want, but most people use their mobile phone as it's easiest.

You are therefore always close to home if you need to see what is happening. It's super delicious if the alarm goes off or the neighbor calls and says someone is prowling around the garden.

The best indoor camera.

The best internal camera for a villa is typically a "dome" camera, as it is both discreet, provides a good image and a good overview. But it also depends on your budget and requirements for the camera. See our 4 examples here:

Example 1:
A really nice result is desired, where aesthetics are highly valued and it is possible to make holes in the ceiling (plaster ceiling, system ceiling, wooden ceiling, etc.)
- Built-in camera: https://ipcam-shop.dk/indendoers-13/hikvision-ds-2cd2e43g2-u-4mp-poe-p5350

Example 2:
The camera is to be used for simple surveillance in a house, villa or apartment. Here we would recommend a small disc camera with a built-in microphone:

Example 3:
A budget-friendly solution is desired for general monitoring of a company's premises. Here we would recommend either cube or dome:

-Cube: https://ipcam-shop.dk/indendoers-13/hikvision-ds-2cd2443g0-iw-4mp-poe-wifi-p2089

Example 4:
The camera must be used for covert surveillance, e.g. built into a piece of furniture or a decorative object. Here we would recommend a hidden camera:

Should you boast of video surveillance?

As a rule , private individuals must not boast that the area is monitored. However, there are exceptions that may require it, e.g. if the postman, garbage collector, babysitter or other outsiders regularly visit the monitored area and there is no written agreement with them in which they are made aware of this. However, it can be a good idea, as the safe legislation is observed to the same extent as it has a preventive effect.

Companies must as a rule have camera surveillance, but exceptions can be made if everyone who has access to the company is informed in writing about the surveillance. The signage must be clear and it is the company's responsibility to comply with the law. Companies must monitor their own areas, i.e. not streets, roads, cycle paths etc. There are special rules for banks and money transfers.

Public authorities and authorities must basically follow the same rules as companies, unless there are special rules, such as the military, police and intelligence services

Do you have to register your cameras on POLCAM?

POLCAM is the police register of video surveillance systems in Denmark. Companies and public authorities are obliged to register and inform about the location of the cameras. Private individuals are not obliged to register, but we recommend it, as it can often lighten the workload of the police in investigative cases.

When is surveillance camera relevant to use?

Video surveillance can be a very effective tool for both private individuals and companies in the fight against special burglaries.

Visible video surveillance can help scare burglars away before a burglary is committed. And if the accident is over, the video surveillance from the surveillance camera can be used in the investigation.

Surveillance cameras are used in many different places and the solutions are different based on needs. Is it for your private home, for the office in your company or as remote monitoring of your holiday home? Our recommendation is often that you ensure that your alarm system and video surveillance work together.

Video surveillance - what are your options ? [private Business]

Today, there are many different options when you want to video monitor your home or workplace.

For example, you can choose a thermal surveillance camera if you need to monitor larger areas (perimeter security) or if you need to monitor temperature differences on surfaces.

It is also possible to choose a solution where your surveillance cameras are connected to an alarm centre. In the event of a burglary, a guard can be sent to your home immediately.

There are also cameras that have been specially developed for both indoor and outdoor use.

When it comes to video surveillance, Uniview and Hikvision are absolute market leaders. We therefore recommend Hikvision products in many contexts, as price and quality go together very well here.

5 good tips for those considering video surveillance

Here are 5 pieces of advice for those of you who are thinking of installing video surveillance at home or at work.

Advice No. 1 - Choose a digital solution

We can only advise you to choose a digital solution. This means that your surveillance cameras are connected to the Internet. That way, you can - in real time - follow along via an app or your computer. And it's also easy for the security company you work with (if that's the case) to help you as best as possible.

Advice No. 2 - Image quality is not everything

It can seem tempting to choose video surveillance in the absolute best quality. But it's not always smart. A towering resolution places great demands on your system. At the same time, a camera with a cheap lens in 8MP can take significantly worse pictures than a camera with a good lens in only 4MP. So get professional help from someone who works with it on a daily basis.

We recommend that you choose a surveillance camera with Full HD and only go up to 4K if it is for indoor use or you need extremely good daytime images.

Advice No. 3 - Choose a recognized manufacturer of surveillance cameras

It is a very good idea to choose video surveillance equipment from a recognized manufacturer that has been in the business for many years. Products from these kinds of companies are often of high quality, as they have been thoroughly tested and are regularly updated.

Advice no. 4 - Familiarize yourself with the legislation

As a homeowner, you are welcome to video monitor your own property. But it is important that you do not monitor either the road or the pavement, as it is public land. You must also not monitor your neighbour's land when it comes to outdoor video surveillance. So be thorough when mounting your cameras.

Advice No. 5 - Choose a motion sensor

Today, you can easily choose an alarm system with one or more motion sensors. And it is a good idea to choose this solution if you are going to set up cameras indoors. That way, you can get a notification immediately if there is movement in your home. And you don't have to go through several hours of footage if you come home to a home that has been broken into.
