PanoVu camera for wide-area surveillance
DS-2CD6D82G2-IS is a so-called PanoVu camera with two built-in cameras in the same housing. The two lenses work together to provide a wide surveillance area, allowing you to cover spaces that would normally require multiple cameras.
The camera delivers two video streams, which can be viewed separately or combined depending on your system setup.
Two cameras in one unit
The camera contains two separate camera modules in the same body. Each lens records its own image, but together they cover a much wider area than a standard camera.
That means you can monitor a larger area with a single installation instead of mounting two or more cameras. The two images can be shown individually or side by side in your surveillance system, so you still get a complete overview of the area.
This gives you a flexible solution for monitoring long facades, large rooms or open areas without having to install multiple separate cameras.
Because the device actually contains two cameras, your surveillance system will also register it as two video channels.
8 MP resolution split across two cameras
The camera includes two separate camera modules, each providing video at 4 MP resolution. Together they deliver a total resolution of 8 MP and a wide surveillance coverage.
Each lens records its own image in its respective direction. This means you get two video streams from the camera, which can be displayed side by side or in separate views in your surveillance system.
The high resolution lets you see details like people, movements and objects clearly, even when the camera covers a larger area.
Since the camera consists of two modules, your surveillance system will typically detect it as two cameras. That usually means it will use two channels on an NVR.
Wide Dynamic Range
The camera supports advanced dynamic range processing, which helps handle large differences between light and dark areas in the image.
This means areas with strong backlight can still be shown clearly, for example at entrances or outdoor installations.
Built-in microphone
The camera has a built-in microphone, allowing you to record audio along with the video. This can provide extra context in situations where sound is relevant to the surveillance.
Audio recording can be enabled or disabled in the camera settings depending on the installation.
Night surveillance with infrared illumination
The camera has built-in infrared illumination, which enables recording in the dark. When the light level drops, the camera automatically switches to night mode.
The infrared lighting helps ensure usable images even in areas without lighting.
Power over Ethernet
The camera supports Power over Ethernet, which means both power and network connection are delivered through the same network cable.*
This makes installation easier since you don't need to run a separate power cable to the camera.
Analytics features
The camera supports a range of analytics features that can detect different types of events in the surveillance area. It can, for example, detect motion, scene changes and activity in predefined zones.
The analytics can be used to trigger recordings, send alerts or activate other system functions.
How the camera appears in NVR and surveillance software
Because the camera contains two modules, it also sends two separate video streams. In practice, this means your surveillance system will normally register the device as two cameras.
You will therefore typically see two video channels in your NVR or surveillance software. They can be shown separately or side by side so you still get an overall view of the area.
This gives you flexibility in the setup. For example, you can place the two views in different positions in your camera layout, or put them next to each other to create a wide panorama.
If you use the camera with a Hikvision NVR, the system can also combine functions and recordings from both camera modules so you still manage the camera as a single installation.
Functions in the camera and via NVR
The camera can handle a number of basic functions itself such as motion detection, video analytics and recording to a memory card or network storage.
Some functions can also be managed by an NVR depending on the setup. When the camera is used with a recorder, the system can centralize analytics and recordings.
This means features like recording management, alarm handling and advanced search are often administered via the recorder.
Accessories
There are various mounts available for this camera depending on the installation. These can include wall mounts or junction boxes for cable connections.
Under the accessories tab you can see which brackets and accessories fit the camera.
