10G fiber connection over long distances

With a transfer speed of 10 Gbps and a range of up to 20 km, this module is ideal when the network connection needs to run much farther than standard copper-based Ethernet normally allows.

It can be used, among other things, between network switches in different buildings, between technical rooms, or as a high-speed connection in larger Uniview network installations.

What is an SFP+ fiber module?

An SFP+ fiber module makes it possible to create a fiber connection between two compatible devices with SFP+ ports. The module converts the device’s electrical network signal into an optical signal that can be sent through the fiber cable.

To establish a complete connection, you need a fiber module at each end as well as a suitable fiber cable between the devices.

10 Gbps data rate

SFP-XG-RX1270/TX1330-IN supports a data rate of 10 Gbps.

This high capacity makes the module well suited as a connection between central network switches and other places where large amounts of network traffic need to be transported between two points.

Singlemode fiber up to 20 km

The module is designed for singlemode fiber and supports a transmission distance of up to 20 km.

Singlemode fiber is typically used for longer connections and is therefore a good choice between buildings, larger areas, and network points where the distance is too great for ordinary network cables.

One fiber for both sending and receiving

The module uses a Simplex LC connection, which means communication takes place through one fiber core instead of a standard fiber pair.

This is possible because sending and receiving occur on different wavelengths. SFP-XG-RX1270/TX1330-IN transmits at 1330 nm and receives at 1270 nm.

Requires a module with opposite wavelengths

The fiber connection requires a compatible module at the other end that transmits on the wavelength this module receives on, and receives on the wavelength this module transmits on.

The opposite end must therefore be designed to transmit at 1270 nm and receive at 1330 nm. Two identical SFP-XG-RX1270/TX1330-IN modules cannot by themselves create the correct optical transmitter and receiver pair.

Simplex LC connector

The optical connection uses a Simplex LC connector.

It is important to choose a singlemode fiber cable with the correct LC connection so that the cable and fiber modules fit together at both ends.

10G SFP+ modules are typically used for high-speed connections between network switches, servers, and other network equipment.

This 20 km singlemode model is especially relevant for connections between buildings, technical rooms, larger business areas, and other installations where the network needs to be carried over long distances.

Well suited as a backbone in surveillance networks

In larger video surveillance systems, many cameras can send data through the same central network connection. Here, a 10 Gbps fiber connection can be used between, for example, access switches and a central switch or between different parts of the installation.

At the same time, fiber is electrically isolated between the two ends of the connection, which can be an advantage for network connections between different buildings.

Compatibility

The module requires network equipment with a compatible 10G SFP+ port and singlemode fiber with a Simplex LC connection.
