The all-in-one license plate camera
This camera is perfect for any task that requires effective license plate capture and even reactions to some or selected plates. Most cameras fail to read plates at night because they just create a white "streak" over the plate. Uniview's ANPG camera is designed specifically to avoid this, so you can count on clear license plate images day and night.
Should I choose 2.8-12mm or 8-32mm?
Which lens you should choose depends on the distance to the point where the plate will be read. Here are approximate distances
- If the distance is approx. 3-15 meters you should choose 2.8-12mm.
- If the distance is approx. 10-50 meters you should choose 8-32mm?
These distances are approximate, but try to avoid the maximum ranges.
White light or IR?
Besides choosing the lens, you also need to decide whether the camera should have IR illumination or white light. It's important to pick the right light source, as the two have very different advantages. The light only turns on when it's dark and activates automatically.
- If you choose IR light (infrared), you get a very discreet license plate system and the plate will be read perfectly in the dark. You will only see the plate when it's dark. The rest of the image will be quite dark. Therefore we recommend an additional camera mounted beside it for general night monitoring.
- If you need color on the vehicle, consider white light. Just be aware that the light is VERY powerful and can dazzle the driver.
Control barriers, gates, traffic lights, etc.
The camera has a built-in relay that can be used to control many different things, such as
- gates
- boom barriers
- traffic lights
- scales
- bollards
- barriers
- alarms
- and much more via API
You can easily connect equipment directly to the camera, but if you connect the camera to an NVR, you can even control the relays on the recorder or use the recorder to trigger relays on another camera.
Reactions to license plates
The camera can react to license plates in different categories and trigger different actions in different scenarios
- Approved license plate (white-list)
- Blacklisted license plate
- Unknown license plate
- All vehicles
The reaction can then be
- Trigger camera relay
- Trigger relay in NVR
- Trigger relay in another camera (requires NVR)
- Send notification
- Send email
- Start recordings
- etc.
Today the price of a license plate camera (also known as ANPG) is accessible for everyone. The camera has all the built-in analytics you need to get started, so you only depend on the camera, an SD card and power. Of course the camera can also be connected to a recorder.
When a car passes a defined point on the road, the plate is read and saved to a database. All recorded plates can later be searched.
An approved, blacklisted or unknown plate can also trigger its own reaction, such as a push notification, an email with an image or opening a gate.

If there are network problems, the camera stores the recordings on an SD- card - and then sends them to the recorder when the connection is stable again.
