4 MP AcuSense camera for surveillance day and night

DS-2CD2043G2-I combines 4 MP resolution with Hikvision AcuSense and classification of people and vehicles. The camera can therefore be used for general video surveillance while also sorting better between the events that should trigger an alarm.

AcuSense focuses on people and vehicles

Hikvision AcuSense uses Deep Learning to classify people and vehicles. Instead of only detecting that something is moving in the image, the camera can focus on the objects that are typically most relevant in surveillance.

This is especially useful outdoors, where standard motion detection may otherwise react to many different kinds of movement in the camera’s field of view.

Line crossing and intrusion detection

The camera supports line crossing and intrusion detection with classification of people and vehicles.

With line crossing, you can define a line in the image and detect when a person or vehicle crosses it. Intrusion detection is used to define an area where the camera can react if a person or vehicle enters.

For example, it can be used at a driveway, a gate, along a building, or around an area where you want more targeted surveillance.

4 MP gives a detailed image

The camera has a maximum resolution of 2688 × 1520 pixels. This provides a detailed image and more pixels than traditional Full HD, giving you a better chance of seeing smaller details in recordings.

The camera delivers up to 25 frames per second at 50 Hz and up to 30 frames per second at 60 Hz at the full 4 MP resolution.

Choose between 2.8 mm and 4 mm

DS-2CD2043G2-I comes with two different fixed lenses. This makes it possible to choose the camera based on how wide an area needs to be monitored.

2.8 mm gives about a 103° horizontal field of view. This is the widest option and is well suited for entrances, terraces, courtyards, and areas closer to the camera.

4 mm gives about an 84° horizontal field of view. Here the image becomes more focused forward, while the camera still keeps a relatively wide overview.

Up to 40 meters IR in the dark

The camera has built-in 850 nm IR illumination with an illuminated range of up to 40 meters. When it gets dark, the camera can switch to black and white and use IR light to monitor the area.

The light sensitivity is stated as 0.005 lux in color at F1.6 and 0 lux when IR illumination is activated.

120 dB WDR helps in strong backlight

If there are both very bright and dark areas in the same scene, it can be difficult for a camera to show details in both parts of the image. DS-2CD2043G2-I has 120 dB WDR, which helps balance these differences.

This can be useful, for example, at an entrance with daylight in the background or a driveway where sunlight and shadows create major differences in lighting.

The camera also supports BLC, HLC, and 3D DNR for additional image adjustment.

Face Detection

The camera supports detection of faces in the image. This means the camera can detect when a face appears in the monitored scene.

Face Detection should not be confused with facial recognition. The datasheet states face detection, but not identification of specific people against a face database.

How far can the camera see?

The DORI values vary depending on the selected lens and describe the expected level of detail in the image.

With 2.8 mm, the values are approximately 67 meters for Detect, 26 meters for Observe, 13 meters for Recognize, and 6 meters for Identify.

With 4 mm, the values are approximately 80 / 31 / 16 / 8 meters.

The DORI values should not be confused with the camera’s IR range. The built-in IR illumination is specified for up to 40 meters.

Supports SD cards up to 256 GB

DS-2CD2043G2-I supports SD cards up to 256 GB, so recordings can be stored directly in the camera. The camera also supports network storage via NAS.

This makes it possible to use the camera with local storage or as part of a larger surveillance system with a compatible Hikvision recorder.

H.265+ saves storage space and network traffic

The camera supports H.265+, H.265, H.264+, and H.264. H.265+ is Hikvision’s optimized video compression, which can reduce the amount of data that needs to be stored and sent over the network.

This is especially an advantage during continuous recording, where the difference in data volume can have a big impact on how long recordings can be stored.

PoE makes installation easier

The camera can be powered by either 12 V DC or PoE according to IEEE 802.3af. With PoE, both power and network data can run through the same network cable.

This usually means that only one cable needs to be run to the camera if it is connected to a compatible PoE switch or PoE recorder.

IP67 for outdoor installation

DS-2CD2043G2-I is IP67 rated and protected against dust and water. The camera can operate at temperatures from -30 °C to +60 °C and can therefore be used both indoors and outdoors.

The model does not have special corrosion protection. For installation directly in demanding coastal environments, harbor areas, or places with chemical exposure, a camera with a suitable corrosion rating should be chosen.

Power over Ethernet

Do like the professionals. POE means that only one cable is needed for the camera. The camera gets power through the network cable, typically from a recorder with built-in PoE, or from a POE switch.
