Ajax MotionCam is a wireless motion detector with a built-in camera for Ajax alarm systems. When the sensor detects motion and the system is armed, it automatically takes photos of the event. This lets you quickly see whether the alarm is real or a harmless incident.

Ajax MotionCam
Ajax MotionCam is used for indoor monitoring of rooms, corridors, shops, offices and other areas where you want motion detection with visual confirmation. The sensor works like a standard PIR motion detector but adds photo verification so you can see the situation directly in the Ajax app.
PIR sensor detects motion
MotionCam uses a PIR sensor to detect changes in heat within the sensor's coverage area. When a person moves through the room, the sensor detects the movement and sends an alarm to the system.
Photo verification on alarm
When an alarm is triggered by motion, the built-in camera activates and takes a series of photos. The images are sent to the Ajax app so you can quickly assess what's happening on site. This feature helps reduce uncertainty around alarms and gives the control center a better basis for responding.
Fast image delivery
MotionCam can deliver the first image in a few seconds. Delivery time depends on image resolution and signal conditions. At standard resolution, the image is typically delivered in around 9 seconds.
IR light for dark environments
The built-in IR light allows MotionCam to take pictures in dark or dimly lit rooms. That means you can still get visual confirmation of an alarm even if the event happens at night or in a completely dark area.
However, it's important to note that the camera in MotionCam is not intended as a full surveillance camera. Its purpose is fast alarm verification, not continuous video monitoring or high-detail identification. The images are primarily used to determine whether there are people in the room and whether the alarm is genuine.
Therefore, image quality can't be compared to a dedicated high-resolution surveillance camera with powerful IR lighting and video functionality. In dark conditions, images will typically be coarser and contain fewer details than those from a conventional security camera. On the other hand, MotionCam is very fast at sending images immediately on alarm, providing effective extra security and quick situational awareness.
HDR for difficult lighting
The HDR feature helps provide more detailed images in scenes with both dark and bright areas. This can be useful in rooms with windows where regular images might otherwise be too dark or too bright.
Ignores small pets
MotionCam can ignore small pets up to 20 kg and 50 cm when the sensor is mounted correctly. However, it's important to be aware that the feature is not 100% fail-safe. Detection depends on, among other things, where the pet is relative to the sensor, how close it gets to the detector, and how it moves in the room.
If a pet jumps onto a sofa, windowsill, shelf or gets high into the sensor's field of view, the risk of an alarm increases. That's why we recommend magnetic contacts on doors and windows if you want to secure the perimeter of the home while minimizing the risk of alarms from pets inside the room.
Adjustable sensitivity
The sensor's sensitivity can be adjusted in the Ajax app. You can choose between different levels so detection fits the size, placement and environment of the room.
Stable wireless communication
MotionCam communicates wirelessly with the Ajax hub. Alarm data and images are sent via secure wireless connections, and the system continuously monitors the link between sensor and hub.
Privacy and photo protection
MotionCam only takes pictures in connection with an alarm. Images are sent encrypted and can only be viewed by users with access to the event log in the Ajax app.
Battery-powered with long life
The sensor is powered by two CR123A batteries and can operate for up to 4 years under normal use. The Ajax app notifies you well in advance before the batteries need replacing.
