DualCurtain Outdoor Jeweller is an outdoor curtain detector that protects two directions at once — a left and a right zone — in a single device. That makes it possible to secure long facades, driveways or passages without installing two separate sensors. Each side works as its own detector with individual range, near-zone function and angle offset, so it can be precisely adapted to the physical conditions. The combination of four IR sensors, micro-control of fields of view and Ajax’s advanced algorithms provides stable operation in outdoor environments where light, temperature and movement normally create challenges.

Two independent detection zones in one device

DualCurtain consists of two separate curtain sensors in one housing — one for the left and one for the right. Each side can be configured individually with its own range, sensitivity, near zone and angle adjustment. That means you can cover two directions from the same mounting point, e.g. along both sides of a building, an entrance corridor or a long fence. This design saves both time and equipment and provides a more flexible perimeter setup.

Four IR sensors for precise motion detection

Each side of the detector uses two IR elements that work together to confirm motion. When two separate sensors detect movement at the same time, the risk of false alarms from reflections, vegetation or short-term temperature changes is reduced. The four sensors therefore provide a more robust detection basis in outdoor environments.

Adjustable detection range between 4 and 15 meters per side

The range can be adjusted separately for the left and right sides via sliders on the back. This allows the sensor to be tailored to narrow areas, short passages or longer fence stretches. If there are unwanted areas or paths close to the sensor’s position, the range can be reduced to cover only the desired area.

Narrow 4.5° detection angle

The narrow detection field makes it possible to create a precise barrier that detects movement in a very narrow zone. It is ideal for protecting entrances, walkways, windows, tall fences or narrow corridors where a wide sensor would produce too many unnecessary detections.

Active near-zone detection for blind spots

When the near zone is enabled, an additional 40° downward field of view opens so the sensor also monitors the area directly in front of the housing. This prevents an intruder from getting right up to the sensor without being detected. The near zone can be customized individually for each side so it is only enabled where it makes sense.

Ability to offset the detection angle

Using an optical offset, each side of the detector can be adjusted up to 3° horizontally. This is typically used if one side of the area needs to be “turned” slightly away from a path, a road or an area where you don’t want detection. This allows fine-tuning without physically rotating the entire detector.

Pet immunity up to approximately 80 cm

DualCurtain can ignore movements from animals up to about 80 cm high, regardless of weight. This helps avoid false alarms from dogs, cats and similar animals. Pet immunity requires the device to be mounted at the correct height (typically 0.8–1.3 meters) so the sensor’s zone creates the right “cut-off” for low movement.

SmartDetect and ELSA software filtering

The sensor uses Ajax’s proprietary algorithms, SmartDetect and ELSA, which analyze motion patterns, speed, size and thermal signature. The system distinguishes between relevant and irrelevant movements and reduces the impact of birds, wind-blown branches, sun reflections or heat emission from buildings. This preserves stable operation day and night, year-round.

Temperature compensation for outdoor climates

When temperatures change dramatically, PIR sensors’ effectiveness can drop. DualCurtain automatically compensates for this by analyzing the environment’s thermal profile and adjusting sensitivity. This provides more stable detection in strong sun, freezing temperatures and rapid temperature changes.

Powerful anti-masking system

DualCurtain can detect attempts to block its field of view, for example if someone tries to cover the lens with tape, paint, fabric or paper. Anti-masking detects obstructions down to 10 cm in front of the lens, depending on the material. This is important for doors, fences and areas where intruders might try to “disable” the sensor before moving on.

Tamper protection and anti-move protection

A built-in sabotage switch detects if the sensor is removed from the wall or from the SmartBracket. In addition, an accelerometer can be enabled so the detector issues an alarm if it is pulled or twisted when mounted with an angle bracket. This makes it difficult to tamper with the device without being detected.

Long wireless range — up to 1,700 meters

With Ajax Jeweller radio the sensor has a theoretical range of up to 1.7 km in open air. Practically, this means it can be used on large properties, along long buildings, outbuildings or areas where long distance to the hub would otherwise be a challenge.

Encryption and frequency hopping

All data is sent encrypted with dynamic keys so the communication cannot be intercepted. At the same time, the system automatically switches between available channels if noise or jamming attempts occur nearby. This ensures a stable and secure wireless connection.

Battery operation up to 4 years

DualCurtain is powered by two CR123A batteries and can operate for up to about four years depending on activity and environment. This makes installation flexible since no power cabling is required. Battery status is monitored automatically by the hub, which notifies you well before replacement is needed.

Outdoor design with IP54 protection

IP54 rating means the sensor is protected against rain, dust and moisture. The included hood reduces the impact of precipitation and improves the anti-masking system’s ability to function in bad weather. Therefore it can be mounted on facades, fences, carports and other outdoor areas.
