Ajax FireProtect smoke alarm
FireProtect is a wireless fire detector that senses smoke and temperature increases. If the alarm is triggered, it immediately sends a message to the hub and on to your phone via the app, SMS or a call.
Detects smoke
FireProtect keeps an eye on the air, and if it detects smoke, it reacts straight away. It works by sending an invisible beam of light through a small chamber. If smoke particles enter, they disturb the light and trigger the alarm. It doesn’t react to everything, as it’s built to distinguish real smoke from other things like dust or steam.
Responds to temperature changes
Besides smoke, it also reacts to temperature changes. That lets you get a warning even if there’s no visible smoke. If the temperature in a room suddenly rises significantly, or if it exceeds 60 °C, the alarm automatically triggers.
In some situations a fire can develop very quickly without smoke at first—this can happen with, for example, an electrical fire. If the heat rises by more than 30 °C within 30 minutes, it’s treated as a potential danger and the alarm will activate.
Optical sensor
It uses an algorithm called HazeFlow that distinguishes between smoke and other particles.
First detection: The sensor notices particles in the air and starts an internal check.
Verification: Instead of triggering the alarm immediately, FireProtect waits 30 seconds to check whether there is still smoke. If the particles disappear quickly, the alarm is ignored—for example, if it was just steam from a boiling pot.
Confirmed fire hazard: If there’s still smoke after 30 seconds, the alarm goes off and you’re alerted.
Maintenance
The smoke chamber is conventional and can be affected by dust and insects. It requires periodic cleaning to ensure it keeps working properly.
All smoke alarms trigger together
If one smoke detector activates, all the other smoke detectors will also go off. You can also connect outdoor and indoor sirens so neighbours can hear if a smoke alarm is triggered.
Easy to install and configure
FireProtect is very easy to install. Scan the QR code in the Ajax app and place the sensor on the ceiling or wall. You then configure and test it in the app.
Range
FireProtect has a range to the hub of up to 1,300 metres in open terrain.
Battery life
The sensor comes with 2 × CR2 primary batteries with a life of up to 4 years. The actual life depends on several factors:
- How much it’s used – frequent activations can affect battery life.
- Temperature – very cold environments can reduce battery performance.
- Battery quality – higher-quality batteries typically last longer than standard ones.
Tamper protection
If someone tries to remove the sensor, it sends a tamper alarm to the hub.
